restoration after the 1994 northridge earthquake<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the case study house program spanned from 1945 to 1964.  it was sponsored by john entenza, publisher of arts and architecture magazine, and ucla.  the program featured houses designed in an avant garde style with innovative technology to show the american public what was possible.  the homes were open to the public prior to being sold as private residences.  after the northridge earthquake in 1994, the los angeles conservancy, a local preservation advocacy non-profit, asked mr. olschlager to survey the case study houses in the chautauqua compound for earthquake damage.  all the homes had some minor damage except for case study house 18 which was severely damaged.  mr. olschlager restored  case study house 18 and added a small addition. the work done on case study house 18 was recognized with several preservation design awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

homes in the survey included: case study, house 8, the ray and charles eames house, 1945-1949;\u00a0\u00a0case study house 9, the john entenza house (charles eames and eero saarinen architects), 1945 \u2013 1949;\u00a0\u00a0case study house 18, the west house, (rodney walker, architect) 1947 \u2013 1948; and the doctor baily house, (richard neutra architect) 1947 \u2013 1948.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
