the el capitan theater was heavily damaged by the 1994 northridge earthquake and adjacent subway construction. the concrete structural frame was compromised and repaired with epoxy injection. repairs to the exterior included the cast stone, cast iron storefronts and metal windows. interior restoration included repairs to the decorative cast plaster details and paint finishes. the project included the design of new elevator lobbies replacing inappropriate lobbies from the 1960’s.
