the olmsted district, torrance, ca, 2002-2018

mr. olschlager worked with the torrance historical society and the torrance planning department from 2002-2018 on a survey of the olmsted district. the purpose of the survey was to use it as an element of the city plan and the adoption of a preservation plan. the olmsted district was designed in 1912 by the landscape architect firm the olmsted brothers. the olmsted brother’s father, frederick law olmsted senior, is regarded as the father of the landscape architecture profession. he designed central park in new york city, ny and many parks and parkways across the country. architect irving gill designed many of the early structures of the city.
